Schoinoussa or Schinoussa is located in the south of Naxos, in the middle about of Small Cyclades island group (Koufonisi,Irakleia,Schoinoussa, Donoussa). It is the third largest island of Small Cyclades with the biggest coastline, small golfs and a variety of beaches.
Schoinoussa has been inhabited since antiquity. On the island there are sites of archaeological interest including ancient Greek and Roman ruins, ruins of a Byzantine church and a small medieval castle. From the 11th century the island was the property of the Hozoviotissa Monastery on the nearby island of Amorgos.
By staying in Schoinoussa you can visit sandy or pebble beaches like Tsigouri, Almyros, Psili Ammos, Alygaria. Chora is a picturesque place with cafes, restaurants, tavernas and of course people with genuine and positive energy. If you are more adventurous why not try diving, fishing or cannoning?
